SULAIMANI — A number of MPs in the Kurdistan Region’s Parliament invited Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and minister of Interior Rebar Ahmed to a session on last week’s student protests.

According to a letter signed by MPs from different factions, the session will cover students’ demands and police violence in the protests.

The demonstrations resulted in the arrest of a number of students and others were injured in the protests.

"Demonstrations and peaceful protests from students are a right provided by law and the constitution, so government, institutions and forces must protect the right to protest, not vice versa," said Omar Gulpi, an MP in the Kurdistan Parliament.

Students from universities and institutes in the Kurdistan Region protested for several days last week, demanding the payment of students’ monthly stipends.
