SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Coordinator for International Advocacy Dindar Zebari said on Monday (November 29) the Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) has played a negative role in the student protests in Sulaimani.

Zebari told the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official media outlet that the PKK wanted the protests to take another turn.

"People were arrested in the protests and there are PKK members among them,” he said.

Students from universities and institutes in the Kurdistan Region protested for several days last week, demanding the payment of students’ monthly stipends.

Zebari said because of PKK activites on the Kurdistan-Turkey border, "About 600 villages in the Kurdistan Region have been evacuated and people cannot return to their homes.”
