SULAIMANI — Two people were killed and two others wounded in a shooting incident involving Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) commander Brigadier General Murad Kani Kurdai in Ranya on Thursday (November 25) night, an NRT journalist reported.

Kurdai’s brother, Firzad Abdulrahman Kani Kurdai, told NRT’s Panorama program that members of the PUK's security agency attacked his brother.

He stated his brother survived the attack after being shot in the leg and that he could not reveal his brother’s whereabouts due to the danger to his life.

Firzad Kurdai said his brother was targeted due to his political relationship with Lahur Sheikh Jangi Talabani.

A source close to Murad Kurdai, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the PUK commander was shot six times.

Murad Kurdai’s son posted on Facebook that his father was wounded but alive.

An NRT reporter said Kurdai’s party was attacked in the center of Ranya district near a police station.

PUK affiliated media outlets said Kurdai was wanted by security forces (Asayish).

PUK media reported an officer was killed and another wounded when Asayish tried to arrest Kurdai.
