SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Spokesperson Jotiar Adil on Monday (October 25) announced a mandate that all teachers in the Kurdistan Region must be vaccinated against COVID-19 by December 1 and all KRG employees by January 1.

During a press conference, Adil said that anyone who refuses to do so will face legal consequences.

He added that in-person classes will continue in schools, universities, and institutes, but that parents are free to decide whether they want their children to have in-person classes or online classes.

Since a summer peak, COVID-19 cases have gradually been declining in the Kurdistan Region, though health authorities have noted a troubling spike in COIVID-19 deaths recently.

According to the health ministry, there have been 355,541 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region as of Saturday. An official tally of 333,257 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 6,265 have died from it.
