SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Sunday (October 17) it officially recorded 1,147 new cases of coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours.

There were 581 new cases in Erbil governorate, 277 in Sulaimani, 129 in Duhok, 51 in Halabja, 60 in the Raparin administration, and 49 in the Garmian administration.

On July 26, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 3,559 infections.

The ministry also said twelve patients had died from the disease, while 1,517 others recovered.

According to the health ministry, there have been 350,195 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 325,164 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 6,136 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
