SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Education Alan Hama Saeed said on Sunday (October 17) that the ministry plans to continue to hold in-person classes at primary and secondary schools, but the decision is ultimately up to the KRG Ministry of Health and dependent on the COVID-19 situation.

Hama Saeed said that he expects to meet with health officials this week to assess the situation.

He also said that the aim of the meeting is to raise the number of teachers receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.

COVID-19 infection numbers have been relatively stable in the Kurdistan Region recently, but non-contract teachers, which make up a significant portion of the workforce, have been protesting and striking over pay and benefits over the last two weeks.
