COVID-19 patients, infected cannot vote in October elections: IHEC

SULAIMANI — Spokesperson for Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) Jumana al-Ghalay said on Tuesday (September 28) that people who are infected with COVID-19 or are hospitalized cannot vote in the early parliamentary elections set for October 10.

Al-Ghalay said in a statement that the ministry will place protective face masks and provides all protective supplies at the polling stations in cooperation with Supreme Committee for Health and National Safety.

He said that mobile health teams will be available in all the stations for any kind of emergency situation.

The polling stations will be sanitized a day before the vote in coordination with the civil defense departments, he added.

Al-Ghalay said that the commission’s staff will sterilize the devices and pens continuously on the election day.
