SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Education Alan Hama Saeed said on Monday (September 27) that schools in the Kurdistan Region will be closed for four days on and around Iraq’s parliamentary election.

Saeed said in during a press conference that many of the schools will be used by Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) as polling places.

Schools will close two days before the polls to set up and teachers will use the day after the vote to prepare to resume classes.

"We will abide by the self-protective [measures],” the minister said, calling on teachers to get vaccination against COVID-19.
