689 new coronavirus cases recorded in Kurdistan Region: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Saturday (October 31) it had recorded 689 new cases of coronavirus infections in the region over the past 24 hour.

The Region continues to experience troublingly high numbers of new infections with 1,597 new cases recorded on Tuesday, the highest single-day total yet.

A total of 301 of the newest cases were in Duhok governorate, along with 214 in Erbil, 100 in Sulaimani, 36 in the Garmian administration, twenty-two in Halabja, and sixteen in the Raparin administration.

The Region logged more than 1,000 new cases per day over five days last week from October 19 to October 23. Cases this week have been just as high.

The Ministry also said twenty-four patients had died from the virus, while 201 recovered from the disease.

According to the health ministry, there have been 76,025 officially-recorded cases of the coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 42,809 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 2,455 have died from it.
