Iraqi pilot, assistant die in training crash

SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Security Media Cell said on Saturday (October 31) that a pilot and his assistant died in a plane crash in Saladin’s Balad district during a flight training accident.

The Security Media Cell said in a statement that the military training aircraft, a Cessna Caravan 172, crashed as a result of a technical problem. The aircraft caught fire and crashed in an inhabited area of Balad district.

Lieutenant Colonel Saif Ayed and his assistant, Captain Ali Rasoul, were announced dead at the scene.
