More than 1,000 new coronavirus cases in Baghdad and 4,300 across Iraq: ministry

SULAIMANI — The federal Ministry of Health said on Sunday (August 16) that it recorded 4,348 new cases of coronavirus and 75 deaths in the country over the past 24 hours.

A total of 1,055 of the newest cases are in Baghdad governorate, along with 485 in Basra, 401 in Najaf, 297 in Erbil, 295 in Karbala, 250 in Nineveh, 185 in Diwaniya, 176 in Wasit, 169 in Muthanna, 157 in Kirkuk, 135 in Dhi Qar, 134 in Duhok, 121 in Babil, 108 in Saladin, 106 in Sulaimani, 95 in Diyala, 91 in Maysan, 88 in Anbar.

The ministry said that 75 patients died from COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus infection, 2,674 patients recovered from it.

According to the health ministry, there have been 176,931 cases of coronavirus in Iraq. 125,374 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 5,860 have died from it.
