Drone shot down near US military base in Baghdad

SULAIMANI —Iraqi security forces shot down a drone near the Martyr Muhammad Ala Air Base inside Baghdad International Airport on Tuesday (May 24).

Iraq Security Media Cell said on Twitter today that the Iraqi air defence forces detected and downed the drone which tried to near the base early this morning.

The media cell shared photos of the damaged drone.

No casualties or damage to the base were reported.

The airbase hosts local Iraqi and international forces, including the US forces.

The US-led coalition military bases in Iraq have come under a series of attacks in 2022.

On January 28, six missiles were fired at Baghdad International Airport and Camp Victory military base, causing significant damage to an Iraqi Airway plane.
