SULAIMANI — The Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF) re-elected
Hasan Turan as head of the movement during its second annual congress in Kirkuk
on Monday (May 23), Anadolu Agency (AA) said.
A source from the ITF leadership told NRT
members of the conference unanimously decided to remove the former leader of
the movement, Arshad Salihi, from the ranks of the leadership.
Salihi had neglected to
take part as a regular member of the party, the source informed NRT, adding
that the former leader had attributed his absence to the fact that he chooses
to remain in Baghdad and continue the policy of the Turkmen Front in the Iraqi
capital.
Turan had previously replaced
Salihi as leader of the ITF in March 2021, according to AA.
The Turkmen Front held
its second annual congress in Kirkuk on Monday where it amended several
internal laws and elected new members of the movement’s political bureau.
The ITF amended several
internal laws in its congress on Monday and elected 12 members of its political
bureau. The party holds eight seats in the Iraqi parliament, according to AA.
