SULAIMANI — Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said one of its
officers was assassinated in Tehran on Sunday (May 22), according to Tasnim News.
Colonel Sayad Khodai was hit with five gunshots by two men on a motorcycle
at 4 pm on Sunday while he was in his car in one of the side-streets near his
home in East Tehran, Tasnim said.
Khodai was known as a "holy shrine defender,” a title used in Iran to
refer to military personnel who defend Shia shrines in Iraq and Syria, whether
in combat against the Islamic State (ISIS) or in support of the Assad regime in
Syria.
