SULAIMANI — Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi met with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil on Wednesday (December 8) to discuss joint operations between Peshmerga forces and Iraqi Security Forces against Islamic State (ISIS) militants.

Kadhimi, accompanied by a high-level military delegation, arrived at Erbil International Airport and was received by Barzani.

Earlier on Wednesday, the KRG Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs said in a statement that Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army launched joint operations against ISIS in Garmaser and Qaratapa axes.

The ministry said the operations are in the framework of the agreements reached earlier between the KRG and the federal government.

Attacks from ISIS militants have been a nightly occurrence over the past two weeks in areas disputed between the KRG and Iraq, in which twenty-two Peshmerga members and three civilians were killed.
