688 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Kurdistan Region: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday (October 20) it officially recorded 688 new cases of coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours.

There were 334 new cases in Erbil, 191 in Sulaimani governorate, 117 in Duhok, 44 in Halabja, and two in the Garmian administration.

On July 26, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 3,559 infections.

The ministry also said twelve patients had died from the disease, while 1,367 others recovered.

According to the health ministry, there have been 352,829 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 329,327 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 6,188 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
