KRG's Migrants Federation investigates death of Kurds at Greek camp

SULAIMANI – At least three Kurds have been killed and over 10 injured on the Greek island of Lesbos after being attacked for allegedly not observing the daytime fast during Ramadan on Saturday (May 26).

The head of Kurdistan Region’s Migration Federation, Ari Jalal, told NRT that their representatives in Greece are conducting an investigation.

Jalal declined to give more information and said “We will announce further information after the investigations came to an end.”

The Moria camp on Lesbos has been the center of brawls before between refugees who are stuffed into a facility of 7,000 inhabitants that has been operating at 300% of capacity for months.

According to reports, a group of Kurds were set upon by other migrants who accused them of not fasting.

Videos and photographs posted on social media showed the attacks and their aftermath. The images showed several men had been severely injured.

The attacks forced many Kurdish and Yezidi migrants to flee the camp.
